Ballads & Stories
The ancient art of telling stories through song — ballads of love, loss, war and wandering that have survived centuries because the human truth at their centre never fades. Folk's oldest and most powerful tradition.
Folk Music · Roots & Acoustic · Big Ear Radio
Traditional ballads, Celtic roots, Americana, the great singer-songwriters and the finest contemporary folk — six times a week from one of radio's most knowledgeable and passionate voices.
The Trevor Krueger Folk Show is an hour of acoustic music presented with warmth, knowledge and genuine passion by one of Big Ear Radio's most distinctive voices. Trevor has spent a lifetime with folk music — the traditions that carried it, the artists who kept it alive and the new voices who are taking it somewhere extraordinary. He brings all of that to the show, week after week, six times a week.
The show moves freely across the whole landscape of folk — from centuries-old British ballads and the great Celtic traditions of Ireland and Scotland, through the Americana and bluegrass of the American South, to the literary singer-songwriters of the 1960s and '70s and the new wave of contemporary folk artists who are proving the form has never been more vital. If it's acoustic, rooted and honest, Trevor is interested.
Trevor also makes room every week for listener requests — because folk music has always been passed from person to person, shared at kitchen tables and around campfires, and a radio show is just a bigger version of the same beautiful thing. Send him your picks, your discoveries and your memories, and he'll give them the treatment they deserve.
Folk music is one of the broadest and deepest musical traditions on earth. These are the six territories Trevor returns to — each one a different branch of the same roots.
The ancient art of telling stories through song — ballads of love, loss, war and wandering that have survived centuries because the human truth at their centre never fades. Folk's oldest and most powerful tradition.
From the sea shanties of coastal England to the reels of County Clare, from Welsh hymns to the great ballad traditions of the Scottish Highlands — the British Isles carry one of the richest folk heritages on earth.
Bluegrass, old-time mountain music, country roots and the vast Americana tradition — folk that crossed an ocean, took root in new soil and grew something extraordinary from the seeds it carried with it.
Dylan. Mitchell. Drake. Cohen. Jackson Browne. Artists who took the folk tradition and made it intimate, literary and startlingly personal. Trevor's encyclopaedic knowledge of this world is one of the great pleasures of the show.
The tradition is alive, restless and growing. Aldous Harding, Laura Marling, The Lumineers, Bon Iver, Lankum — Trevor champions contemporary folk with the same passion he brings to the masters, because the music demands it.
Folk music belongs to everyone — and every week Trevor proves it by dedicating time to your requests. A track from your childhood, a song that helped you through something, a discovery you can't stop listening to. Send it in.
